Editing Addict

You can usually find me at 11 PM with my face glued to the computer screen, (ask my husband), because I can't stop myself from editing "just one more." It seriously is addicting, but it's what I love to do! So I thought I'd share a few before and afters. I don't usually like to do dramatic editing, I like to keep things natural, but here are a few examples of some things I've played around with.

This photo is already naturally beautiful, but this is an example of how to airbrush the skin and add makeup.

This next photo is what I call, "you gotta do what you gotta do," ha ha thanks to daddy for being such a great sport!

Here's an example of how to take a great image and make it a little more vintage.

Every photographer knows, we sometimes have to deal with a few blurry photos and bad lighting, but here I've improved the lighting and sharpened the subjects.

Styling Your Photo Shoot

I thought I'd post a little style advice for you all, since I know this is a common question when deciding what to wear for a photo shoot. I love fashion, and would love to offer any tips or advice when it comes to what to wear. First of all don't be afraid of color, not only color but mixing color. Starting with an inspiration piece is a good place to start and building off that color pallet. Choosing to mix colors that are opposite of each other is good way to make the colors stand out, here are of few of my favorite color combos.

MINT, BLACK & GRAY

NAVY, MUSTARD, & GRAY
NAVY. TURQUOISE, & ORANGE
TURQUOISE, RED, AND MUSTARD
NAVY, CHARTREUSE, & GRAY
Mixing patterns, and bringing in pops of color with accessories are all ways to tie the colors together. Another good rule is to keep the guys neutral, (since we all know how much they love this kind of stuff). Here's a great example of how to make it work

The little girl is the base of this pallet, the navy is picked up in moms dress and dads shirt. the turquoise is picked up in moms necklace, and the coral in the polka dots in moms shirt and wedges. As you can see they've mixed the polka dots and stripes, and kept dad neutral. Another element that's great to add is texture, which the lace in the dress adds. Texture is especially fun in the cooler months when you can layer sweaters, scarves, and other fun accessories. My biggest piece of advice is don't get too "matchy", the jeans and same colored shirt days are moving on out, don't worry if the colors don't match perfectly, you want to show each persons personality and a variation of pattern, color and texture are all important to making it look great!
Here's a great link to Studio 5, who had a great segment on this

What a beautiful AND talented family! Loved working with all of them! I think I managed to get one photo of Jhi smiling, although she may not be looking at the camera, (it still counts right? Poor thing was teething). Hope you enjoy these gorgeous fall shots!
